ÑÇÖÞ²ÊƱ¹ÙÍø Grant Supports Engineering and Computer Science Scholarships

Twin Falls, ID – Future ÑÇÖÞ²ÊƱ¹ÙÍø (ÑÇÖÞ²ÊƱ¹ÙÍø) engineering and computer science students stand to benefit from a $5 million National Science Foundation (NSF) Grant recently awarded to Boise State University. Through a partnership with Boise State, ÑÇÖÞ²ÊƱ¹ÙÍø will receive just over $150,000 per year for four years, money that will be used to support scholarships for high-achieving students with demonstrated financial need.
“The unique thing about these scholarships is that they can start from the minute a student enters ÑÇÖÞ²ÊƱ¹ÙÍø and continue to be awarded until the student graduates with a bachelor’s degree at Boise State,” said Andy Cluff, Department Chair of the ÑÇÖÞ²ÊƱ¹ÙÍø Engineering, Physical Science and Computer Science Department. “I am looking forward to talking to the students graduating from high schools throughout the Magic Valley who are interested in engineering and computer science and sharing the exciting opportunities in these fields at ÑÇÖÞ²ÊƱ¹ÙÍø and beyond.”
According to Boise State, this grant serves as the largest grant of its kind in the state of Idaho. First-year students at ÑÇÖÞ²ÊƱ¹ÙÍø will be placed into a Center for Advanced Energy Studies Consortium which will connect them with other students through a seminar course that will support them in their pursuit of a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) career.
“This is an incredible opportunity for Idaho and Boise State as we begin building a better engineering and computer science educational ecosystem for Idaho students through our community college partnerships,” said Don Plumlee, Boise State Associate Dean of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering. Idaho State Board of Education member Dave Hill also praised the grant award and partnership, noting that “the beneficial effects of creating this pathway for talented students will be felt throughout Idaho long after the grant is over.”
Scholarships are expected to be awarded beginning in Fall 2023.
