"Passports and Passages" brings together Idaho high school and college English teachers from around the state to discuss how we teach writing and to consider innovative ways for promoting literacy and writing - across grade levels and in all corners of the state.
This year, our theme is writing beyond borders: multilanguage learners in the composition classroom .
As Idaho’s classrooms become increasingly diverse, both culturally and linguistically, it can be difficult for teachers to develop strategies that address the needs of multilanguage learners. This year’s Passports & Passages symposium, “Writing Beyond Borders,” will bring a variety of voices together around a shared interest in welcoming the unique perspectives of students whose cultures and languages reflect the richness of lived experience. By embracing the inspiring abundance of cultural and linguistic resources that our students bring to the classroom, we can foster more inclusive, responsive, and innovative approaches to writing instruction. This year’s speakers will provide strategies for bringing
diverse perspectives into the classroom, vital for fostering critical thinking, a necessary element in all composition and literature courses . Our aim is to engage teachers in meaningful discussions about dismantling barriers and promoting a culture of abundance in the classroom. Together, we will explore strategies that extend beyond traditional writing practices, creating spaces where all students can succeed.
